Spring is almost here and the time to start getting healthy and preparing for allergy season is NOW.  I used to suffer miserably from seasonal allergies but now, that is a thing of the past.

Are you tired of suffering from red, itchy eyes, a runny nose, sneezing, coughing, and other common symptoms of seasonal allergies? Do you have children or other family members that have to deal with allergies and frequent sinus infections?  How can you get rid of your allergies? I recorded a video on my YouTube channel, the Digestion Diaries a few years ago. In this video, I discuss the root cause of seasonal allergies and offer some tips on how to experience relief.  (The supplement recommendation from the video has been updated and is listed below)

Seasonal Allergies

The first step to seasonal allergy relief is addressing the WHY. Seasonal allergies are an overreaction of the immune system. It’s when your immune system has a high reaction to something like pollen or ragweed rather than a bacterial or viral infection. What is behind this overreaction?

The #1 root cause of seasonal allergies is gut issues. The health of your gut regulates up to 80% of your immune response.  A stressed gut can weaken your immune system and make you more inclined to get frequent colds, viral infections, and cause general malaise.  It can also create an overreaction of the immune system, setting you up for allergic reactions or autoimmune conditions.

Healing your gut is not always so simple, and we are approaching allergy season.  February and March are the best months to start preparing your immune system for the warm weather and all the pollen and other triggers that come with it.

I don’t believe in magic pills but if there was one when it comes to seasonal allergies, I think it would be Aller DMG made by Da Vinci Labs.  Aller DMG is a blend of perilla seed extract, quercetin, vitamin C, NAC, DMG, and bromelain. Here’s how these ingredients work together to reduce allergy symptoms:

  • Perilla seed extract can have a positive effect on the production of mast cells. Your body uses mast cells to attack irritants (like pollen). Unfortunately, mast cells create a flood of histamine in the body which leads to redness, runny nose, itchy eyes, and many other common allergy symptoms. Decreasing mast cell production helps curb many symptoms of allergies.
  • Quercetin is an antioxidant that prevents tissue breakdown and calms the immune system
  • NAC can help to thin mucous and helps with immune system regulation
  • DMG can offer more Immune support
  • Bromelain is a digestive enzyme found in pineapples that also has powerful anti-inflammatory properties

Other habits that can relieve allergy symptoms include:

  • Saline rinses for your nasal passages to clean out pollen and other irritants from your nose.  Some people use a netty pot. Personally, I find the tiny teapot annoying but you can check out NeilMed sinus rinse for a more simple squeeze-bottle approach to nasal rinsing.
  • Vigorous exercise can also help.  Exercise increases adrenaline and cortisol levels in the body, essentially creating your own natural steroids and dilating blood vessels which is what some allergy medications try to mimic.

The root cause of allergies is very often an underlying gut issue so don’t forget that healing the gut should be a priority for any allergy sufferer. Contact me to set up a visit so we can work on your root cause.  In the meantime, though, Aller DMG and the habits mentioned above can help relieve your most challenging allergy symptoms.
