Introduction
Frequently there is an imbalance in the gut. The gut flora resides in our intestinal tract, found throughout the intestine but it’s prominent in the large intestine. There are good bacteria & microorganisms that help our digestion, they aid our immune system and help us produce helpful nutrients. And there are unfriendly microorganisms which promote gas – toxins which interrupt our body’s normal digestive functions. In order to remove the bad microorganisms, we perform a cleansing. A doctor prescribed program tailored to each patient achieves the best, and healthiest, results. Here are the ones I would recommend.
4R Program for Digestive Cleanse
1. Remove
We test each patient for the symptoms of imbalance in the gut area – called Dysbiosis. When the ratio of good/bad bacteria reaches a certain level we get symptoms. That magic ratio is different for each person and the symptoms are varied. This can include acid reflux, chronic aches and pains, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, headaches, and fatigue.
There are many nutritional products available for helping to eliminate the bad microorganisms in your body. We figure out which product/s you need.
During the “Removal” phase of the 4R program these supplements are taken and typically a “Yeast Free Diet” is prescribed. This process will last anywhere from 2-8 weeks depending on the individual.
2. Restore
Restoring digestive enzymes that help make food digestion easier is the next step. At times we may prescribe supplements that re-acidify the stomach with the proper betaine hydrochloride balance.
Restoration normally occurs along with reinoculation.
3. Reinnocculation
Beneficial bacteria and or yeast supplements (probiotics) are prescribed to populate the digestive tract with high amounts of the good bugs. The strains of probiotics are dependent upon the individual. The length of time used and the dosage also vary. This stage lasts from 4-8 weeks. It can function as a supportive stage for up to 6 months. #4 Repair We test each person for nutrients that will aid their body repair the digestive tract.
